Modules and Credit
All our programmes award credit according to the modules studied. The number of credits allocated to each module reflects the curriculum, content and the expected amount of study. The table below shows an example of how this works in practice. Depending on your programme lectures, seminars, personal tutorials and group development sessions will affect your ratio of taught hours to independent study.

The ratio between taught sessions and independent study you will receive depends on the specific programme and module combination you choose.
Your programme is divided into stages or levels, which normally equate to a year of study.
- For undergraduate programmes you will study for 120 credits at each stage which will count toward your final award. The level of difficulty and critical evaluation increases at each level.
- Master’s students study for 180 credits all at level 7.
Independent study
Independent learning is a key feature of higher education and LCCM will actively facilitate this skill. There is guidance provided to help you understand the nature of independent learning on the student portal, and tutors will ensure you understand the nature and expectations for their particular module. Independent learning includes activities such as:
- Practicing, rehearsing and developing your skills
- Reading/listening around your study area
- Researching information in a range of formats
- Preparing for seminars and tutorials
- Applying your studies in different contexts
- Working with your peers
- Preparing for assessments
Where possible LCCM will provide part-time study options to suit you. Part-time study is normally provided as a personalised study plan within the full-time timetable. In some instances, part-time options are only available as a separate cohort and will be dependent on minimum numbers.
LCCM programmes are timetabled across three 10 week terms. Some programmes are timetabled into 2 or three semesters. We try to keep your formal contact sessions to three days a week, giving you the flexibility to work and schedule other activities. LCCM also timetables a range of extra-curricular activities across the week.

Students at LCCM are encouraged to take an active role in their education, helping organise social events, providing feedback on their programmes, & making recommendations to improve the student experience. Students can also be elected as Programme Representatives or Student Committee members. These are elected annually during Term 1.
The Student Committee
LCCM has an active Student Committee that organises social events and support activities throughout the year. The committee have developed a range of social media groups to help support everyone during their studies.

You don’t need to be a committee member; all students are encouraged to get involved, volunteering to help run and co-ordinate new projects.
Academic Representation
Elected student representatives are members of LCCM committees at all levels of the college, and all students on a programme are invited to attend the Staff Student Forums. This is a fantastic opportunity to develop your professional skills, representing your peers and working with the Senior Management Team, to continuously improve the educational provision at LCCM.
