Frequently asked questions about Clearing
Question 1: What is Clearing?
The UCAS Clearing is an opportunity for students to find a place at a university of their choice after results day. It is a great option for high school graduates who want to re-evaluate their early college acceptances or haven’t received acceptance from any university.
Question 2: How do I know if I am eligible to apply through Clearing?
You are eligible for Clearing if you fulfil any of the following conditions:
- You are applying after 30th June 2021
- You don’t have any offers from a university or college you’ve applied to
- You don’t have a confirmed place when exam results are published
Question 3: How do I apply using the Clearing process?
You can start by searching for different college vacancies through the UCAS search tool. Once you find a suitable course, call the university offering it to determine if you meet their Clearing requirements and if they have UCAS Clearing vacancies.
If the university offers you a place that you want to accept, they will provide you with a provisional offer. You can add the Clearing choice in your Track account, which counts as you accepting their offer.
Question 4: When is the UCAS Clearing in 2021?
Clearing opened on 5th July and will run until 19th October.
Question 5: Where can I find Clearing phone numbers for my preferred university?
All universities usually display their Clearing contact numbers on their website along with their UCAS Clearing courses and other relevant information. You should check out the websites of your preferred universities in advance and note down their calling numbers.
If you want to study at LCCM, you can call our Clearing Hotline at +44 (0)20 3535 1080 to get in contact with our student advisors and discuss your options.
Question 6: What kind of information should I keep handy before calling?
Before you start calling your preferred universities, you should have the required information handy. This includes your UCAS Clearing application ID number, Clearing number, personal statements, exam results, and a list of questions you want to ask the student advisor.
Question 7: Where can I find my Clearing number?
You can find your Clearing number when you sign in to your UCAS Track account. It will be visible in the top left-hand corner on the Track home page under My Status. You should keep this number handy when you are calling universities to enquire about their vacancies.
Question 8: How can I add a Clearing choice?
You can add a Clearing choice only when you get a verbal or provisional offer from a university of your choice. Sign in to your UCAS Track account. Then, click on ‘Add Clearing Choice’ and fill out the details of your course and university by the deadline given by them.
You can add only one choice at a given time. You will be able to add another if the earlier university hasn’t confirmed your place for some reason.
Question 9: How many universities can I apply to through Clearing?
You can apply for only one course at a specific university at any point in time. You will be able to apply again if the university doesn’t confirm your place or you change your mind about an acceptance.
Question 10: How long does a university take to respond to my Clearing application?
Most universities can offer you a verbal offer when you call them if they want to take you on as a student. Once you add your Clearing course to your track account, most universities would confirm your place within 24 to 72 hours.
At LCCM, we usually send out a confirmation mail on the same day we make an offer. If you have an offer but haven’t received confirmation, you should check your spam folder or call us on our Clearing hotline the next morning.
