The HNC in Music is a practical course for aspiring musicians, artists or music industry executives. Whether you want to be a solo artist, form a band, work as a session musician or become a music industry professional, this programme gives you the knowledge, skills and networks you need to launch your career in music.

Who is this course for?

The course is aimed at people who want to develop a career in the music industry as a musician, songwriter, artist, band member, manager, music business executive or music industry entrepreneur. Our students also develop skills that can enable them to establish careers in a wide range of other related industries such as in the Arts, in the Media, in technology or Education.

What Will I Experience?

This course gives you a comprehensive practical education covering all aspects of the music industry.

Composing Music

Create your own music using music production technology

Performance

Perform music in a range of bands and ensembles

Music Business

Study a wide range of music business topics from marketing and promotion to copyright and revenue streams to the companies and organisations that make up the music industry landscape

Artists Management and Events

Understand artists management, event management and how to get the right deal for yourself or artist you manage

Theory and Notation

Develop essential skills including applied theory, transcription and working with notation

Creative Research Project

Carry out your own research project into an area of the music business you are personally interested in
