LCCM Choir Perform with Stormzy and Labrinth on X Factor

Our LCCM Choir had an incredible weekend performing on the X Factor with award-winning grime artist, Stormzy, and singer/producer Labrinth. The broadcast was live on ITV last Sunday and has been the choir’s biggest public appearance to date.

The choir has gone from strength to strength recently, having won the University Gospel Choir of the Year competition for 2017, and are currently finalists for BBC’s Songs of Praise Gospel Choir of the Year. This weekend they were joined by some session singers and other gospel voices in London to create a 50-person gospel choir that supported Stormzy’s performance of his new single, “Blinded By Your Grace (Pt. 2).”

Saturday involved a long day with robe-fittings and rehearsals, where the choir practiced the song and met Stormzy, Labrinth and their team. On Sunday they travelled to the X Factor studios in west London, where they had an afternoon of rehearsals on the stage, before changing into their robes and performing on live television, to a viewership of 6 million people.

The whole experience was completely unforgettable, and many found the weekend a fantastic way to learn more about working in the music industry.

Here’s what some of the choir members had to say about the weekend:

“I sang with LCCM and to be honest it was an overwhelming experience . . . to sing with a group of individuals who come from all walks of life but were so positive and share the same passion for music was so moving.” – Ada

“This experience showed me how much effort goes on behind the scenes to execute a successful performance.” – Natasha Tishbi

“Singing with LCCM Choir to back both Stormzy and Labrinth on X Factor was a truly unforgettable experience. It was amazing to share the stage with such talented members of the choir!” – Giulia Olayemi
