We’re barely one month into 2018 and up-and-coming indie band Stereo Honey have already reached multiple exciting milestones in the new year. Current LCCM third year student Jake Black is the band’s drummer and, through awesome live performances and music releases, is setting himself up for great opportunities ahead with the rest of the group after graduation.
Stereo Honey recently appeared on an episode of BBC4’s Hits, Hype & Hustle: An Insider’s Guide to the Music Business, a documentary series hosted by music industry professionals that takes an inside look at how the business works and highlights the importance of A&R. The episode was presented by Emma Banks, leading live agent for the likes of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Katy Perry and Kylie Minogue, whose latest signing is Stereo Honey. She said “There’s already a huge buzz around Stereo Honey and I’ve got big hopes for these guys, but you’ve got to find these artists in the first place, and that’s down to A&R”.
On the show, Stereo Honey are seen playing a live gig and frontman Peter Restrick talks about their appreciation for live agents:
“I guess a live agent’s like your window to the world of gigging. A good live agent knows venues that suit a certain band and they have the contacts there that they can draw from. Every band that does well has a great team behind them, and I think a live agent’s an essential part of that.”
Aside from appearing on BBC4, Stereo Honey have been very busy over the last month making and performing music. So far this year, BBC Introducing made Stereo Honey their Featured Artist with new single Through The Dark before interviewing them on BBC Radio 1, the band were added to the JOE’s 2018 list of Ones To Watch, they released a vinyl edition of their EP Monuments, and they released a video to accompany their 2017 single release The Bay. As well as all this, they played in Holland at Eurosonic Festival and featured in an article beforehand by The Independent about “brilliant acts to look out for” at the festival, and afterwards in an article by DIY Magazine about their “impressive” performance, and they announced upcoming summer performances at The Great Escape Festival, Liverpool Sound City, DiCE Festival and Bushstock Festival. To top everything off, the band been nominated for Best Live Act at the Unsigned Music Awards 2018!
