2018 is looking bright for our alumnus Tom Walker, if this year is anything to go by.
After a very successful 2017, the BBC have added Tom to their Sound of 2018 longlist.
The award is an annual poll from music critics and industry leaders to uncover upcoming talented musicians. Previous winners of the BBC’s Sound Of award include Sam Smith, Years & Years and Haim, and accompanying Tom Walker on this year’s longlist are a slew of other rising stars, such as Billie Eilish, Pale Waves and Sigrid.
The top 5 artists will be announced on BBC Radio 1 on Monday, January 8th. We’re keeping our fingers crossed!
Tom completed our BMus (Hons) Music Performance & Production degree specialising in Songwriting, and graduated in 2014. He released his debut EP, Blessings, with Relentless Records in May 2017, and since then has supported George Ezra, Juke Bugg and The Script on tour. Most recently, he’s released the single Leave A Light On, which was co-written and produced by Steve Mac, whose writing credits include Clean Bandit and Ed Sheeran.
2018 only brings more good things, with a European tour on its way in April. We’re wishing Tom the best of luck with the new year and his Sound of 2018 nomination!
